Adam's Song is pretty straight forward. A dude is writing a letter before killing himself. There's even a Kurt Cobain reference in the "I took my time, I hurried up, The choice was mine" part. That's a direct reference to Nirvana's Come As You Are: "Take your time. Hurry up. The choice is yours. Don't be late."

Here are the lyrics so you can discover this not so subtle song about teenage suicide.

"I never thought I'd die alone
I laughed the loudest who'd have known?
I trace the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
I took my time, I hurried up
The choice was mine I didn't think enough
I'm too depressed to go on
You'll be sorry when I'm gone
I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over I'd survived
I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone
I never thought I'd die alone
Another six months I'll be unknown
Give all my things to all my friends
You'll never step foot in my room again
You'll close it off, board it up
Remember the time that I spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall
Please tell mom this is not her fault
I never conquered, rarely came
But tomorrow holds such better days
Days when I can still feel alive
When I can't wait to get outside
The world is wide, the time goes by
The tour is over, I've survived
I can't wait till I get home
To pass the time in my room alone"

This is my favorite song from Blink although that might sounds weird because its something about suicide.

it'sa really beautiful song. it's so sad but calming..kind of shows you whats it's like to understand someones reasons for suicide which by the way isn't all that horrible...if youre miserable then you can feel free to just pull the trigger..everyone else can feel bad about it and wonder if they could 'ave done some thing to change it and well...they porobly could have

This is an awesome song. Even here in Brazil it is a huge success. Despite the fact that it is about suicide, it really touches us in some kind of general teenage weakness. Depressive moments such those described by the song happens to all of us at some point in life. What we can't forget is to try to go on. Adam might have forgotten that......

Listen, I can't tell who's serious and who's not, but this page and the Good Charlotte - Hold On page seems to be attracting teens with suicidal tendencies.

If you're someone who's thinking of commiting suicide, please go here now or call 1.800.668.6868 (from Canada) or 1.800.784.2433 (from USA) pronto. Do it now.

this song has so much meaning because at one point in our lives we all have contemplated suicide but we still carry on....i loved when he said " 16 just held such better days" its hard to explain why i would like a song thats about suicide but the best answer is that i can relate to what's being said
not because i wanna commit suicide but because there are times when i feel like i don't know whats my purpose for being on this earth... i don't know but this song was beautifully written and for anyone who commits suicide the music is not to blame...its obvious that they had suicide in their minds long before the song came to be and they just acted out their thought...the song is not to blame.

I must say, I have contemplated suicide a few times, but havnt we all? I mean, Im 16, when stuff gets hard you think about it, you think, what am I doing here? Why me? I mean, I have gone throught quite a bit and this song has getten me through it all, when my dad died I listened to it... it helped, when my bestfriend got killed I listened to it, I can't thank Blink enought for writing this song.... Honestly, I agree, the song is NOT to blame...

Adam's Song... That song is so moving.... Crying or Very Sad i've been severely depressed for about 2 years now but i have never really been able to explain or describe my feelings... Adam's song, word for word, is how i felt... feel... i almost killed myself... i OD-ed ALL the time... i thought crazy thoughts.... it's funny cuz i'm usually a preppy gurl w/ good grades and shit.... i love this song.... but i feel really bad for adam cuz no one should ever have to suffer the way most teens do now a days... i just hope that he's Laughing happy wherever he is now...

Yes this is a wicked so about a very depressing topic. but what i would like 2 know is about the last verse and lines I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone. i was thinking that the last verse is slightly more optimistic is this because this was not written by adam? or is it just me who it sounds more optimistic to and about the line I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone can any one plz explain it 2 me
